The Oyster case. The world's first waterproof wristwatch case revolutionized watchmaking when it was launched 90 years ago in 1926. Invented by Rolex, the Oyster case was hermetically sealed thanks to a bezel, case back and winding crown that screw-down against the middle case. The resulting miniature vault provided the high-precision mechanical movement with optimal protection from water, dust, pressure and shocks. Today, the modern Oyster case guarantees waterproofness of at least 100 metres for all Rolex Oyster watches.
